Describe the Collaboration Benefits and Capabilities of Microsoft 365

In Chapter 3, Describe the Productivity Solutions of Microsoft 365, you explored the different platforms that allow collaboration between coworkers and increase their productivity, including the following:

  • Exchange Online and Outlook, providing email communication, calendar, contacts, and task management
  • SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business, providing a single data repository in which members can store, share, and edit files, data, and news

In addition, there are other Microsoft 365 services that present collaborative and teamwork features, all improving team productivity. These apps and services may either work on top of the core Microsoft 365 technologies, such as SharePoint Online or Teams, or complement collaboration by providing different functions.

In this section, you will explore the other collaboration products within the Microsoft 365 suite. The MS-900 exam will contain scenarios where you need to identify the correct service to meet an organization’s needs.

Table 4.1 provides a list of additional Microsoft 365 services along with brief descriptions:

Each of these services is designed to seamlessly integrate with the Microsoft 365 platform. They can operate individually or be integrated into SharePoint Online, Teams, or both to help with collaboration and productivity.

Familiarity with terminology

Make sure that you are familiar with each app and the productivity features they provide. Many apps have been rebranded, so you should be aware of both the old and new names.

However, there are additional apps and services native to Microsoft 365 that come with the core services and offer more features—services such as Stream and Viva Engage (formerly Yammer). You’ll need to know about these different services so that you can address any other collaboration needs within your organization and pass the MS-900 exam.
